The famous Potemkin stairs, which earlier had the name of Richelieu, is the biggest staircase in Ukraine - it has 192 steps. It was built by his Highness Prince Vorontsov as a present for his wife Elizabeth.
The most beautiful place in Odessa is the Primorsky Boulevard, which can be reached by climbing the Potemkin stairs. From here one can see wonderful views of the port, the architectural ensembles of Odessa, here also is a monument to Alexander Pushkin. Odessa people and the guests of the city prefer to have a walk through the Central Park of recreation named after Taras Shevchenko. Here stands the monument to the Unknown Seaman at the foot of which burns the eternal flame.
The main street of Odessa - Deribasovskaya - has the name of the first mayor of the city. A big part of the street is separated under the pedestrian zone, and it is the famous place for meetings residents and guests of the city.
Important part in the cultural life of the city playss the State academic theatre of Opera and ballet. The building of the theatre is one of the most amazing buildings in Europe. The decoration of the portal of the theatre are allegorical images of the muses. In this theater had been singing Caruso, Shalyapin, Sobinov, and many others. Also the theatre of Musical Comedy, the Ukrainian theatre, the Russian drama theatre named Ivanov, the Philharmonic and many others are worth of visiting. Do not forget about museums as well.
The city of Odessa lives and breathes round the clock. There are lots of restaurants here, as well as the hotels and clubs, which are considered the best in Ukraine. Of course, one day in Odessa will be too little to enjoy it fully, however, it would be enough to fall in love with Odessa once and for all.
